April News for A Cozy Death Book Club

I am so sorry that this posting is late — I got locked out of the website due to my investigation of different keys.!!!!

This month we’re reading Poison in Paddington by Samantha Silver. It’s the first of her Cassie Colburn series. Ms. Silver has over 100 books on Goodreads in a variety of series. Check it out and certainly read our choice for the month. It’s funny, a quick read, and has a sufficient number of red herrings to keep you guessing. I enjoyed it. We’ll be discussing it at our meeting on the 27th on Zoom at 2:00 p.m. Please come to the meeting. RSVP on the Meetup website and the Zoom link will appear on your screen. When we’re finished discussing the novel, we’ll be playing our version of Hangman. All the words come from the book. The winner receives a prize.

In May our group meets on the 25th and will be reading Inspector Singh Investigates: A Most Peculiar Malaysian Murder. The book is by Shamini Flint. This is one of the cozies that Tahlia and I promised would be international. We make it a point to include cozies written from various countries. The genre is popular world-wide and that makes reading them all the more interesting.

June will have a bit of a bit of a twist. We are lucky to have Misty Simon come to speak with us. Her newest book is the beginning of a new series, The Charmed Inn Mysteries. The first book in the series is called By Hook or By Book and will be featured on our website. However, our author would be delighted if you read any one of her novels from the several series that she’d written. Most of the series are cozies and delightful reads. Misty spoke to our group before and everyone who participated wanted her to come back. She’s funny, charming, thoughtful, helpful, and generally wonderful to have as a visiting author!

Books I’m Reading

I’ve started Pagan Spring by G. M. Malliet. It’s one that I skipped in Malliet’s oeuvre. I’m enjoying it.  I wish the cover of the novel were more in keeping with the story. It’s a rather trite version of a house among pretty trees and flowers and doesn’t do anything for the vibe of the book. But that’s minor. The story itself is good and I’m moving along with it.

The other book/s that I have in my “other room” reading habit are the Laura Childs’s #s 28 and 29. I’m afraid I’m an addict. My family and I lived in Charleston a hot minute (during hurricane season with a tree on top of our house--but enough said about that) because I loved Charleston when we lived there. It’s hot and humid and simply beautiful. The word languid comes to mind. So…there I am addicted to Laura Childs’s novels: Peach Tea Smash and High Tea and Misdemeanors are her two latest to be published.

Finally, on my Kindle I’m reading Zara Kean’s Knifed in Nice. I guess if one has to die one should be able to do it in France, preferably on the coast like Nice. I’m not that far along, but so far so good. I’ll let you know!

Enjoy your cozies and with love,

Karin Diskin
