Happy May

May Celebrations!

Happy May Day!  This month is full of surprises. On the 8th is National Coconut Cream Pie Day, the 13th is National Apple Pie Day, and on the 16th is National Barbecue Day. Of course, the barbecue follows National Chocolate Chip Day! The 24th is National Asparagus Day which many people can live without! The month is chock full of calories (except the asparagus, which you should eat to help get rid of the calories since it’s supposed to be a diuretic). We have the usual holidays like Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day--but all of that pie is a special gift!

I don’t know about you but I’ve been getting so many texts and emails concerning the election that I tend to “delete” without looking now. It’s not that I’m not vitally interested -- I really am and watch MSNBC in between Midsomer Murders, Agatha Christie remakes, and the like. It’s simply that they need to get together and say in a group that they want money for their cause. It would be so much easier and my bad habit of not reading my email and texts wouldn’t re emerge every 4 years.

I’m reading the most fun book this week. Every Time I go on Vacation, Someone Dies by Catherine Mack is a real hoot. It’s not a cozy mystery, but it is a mystery and a lovely tour of Italy. Let us know what you’re reading. Maybe we can include it on the list of books for 2025. I’m already getting a pile of suggestions.

Do you realize that May is the fifth month of the year. This year I decided to make presents for the holidays for those I hold dear. As a result I have already embarked on my needlepoint projects. I was feeling so virtuous that I’d beaten the July Christmas countdown when I saw a tv advertisement for artificial Christmas trees. What! In May I thought? These people have no respect. I tried so hard to beat them at their game. Drats! Anyway, I saw the most adorable hand painted lamp on a Kit Kemp email. She’s the decorator for several hotels and has taken to designing fine china, throw pillows, aprons, mugs -- you name it -- and I thought how much would a Kit Kemp hand painted lamp that’s humorous be. Well, it was a mere £1280. I can make that I decided and am now deep into a Michael’s search for materials. How fun is that! May is full of wool, glue, paint, and wood.

Enjoy your month and keep on reading.
