June News for The Cozy Death Book Club

Our most recent meeting in May was led by Tahlia, and I understand that BINGO was a hit. Tahlia told me that several people won. I also heard that the Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax was a hit for most of you. This month we’re reading an Agatha Christie novel, Murder at the Vicarage. The book is adapted for television by the earlier Miss Marple series as well as the later one. The adaptations are a bit different than the book, but both are quite appealing.
I’m waiting to hear back from Sue Anne Jaffarian about her visit to us for July. I hope to let you know by the end of this week when I plan to post the book/s for July. The book for August is The Crime at Black Dudley by Marjorie Allingham. It’s a classic and among the vanguard for cozy mysteries. I’m including the list of books for the rest of the year to help you order the books from the library or purchase them ahead of time – whichever is your pleasure.
With that in mind, Tahlia and I are preparing the list for the following year. Do you have any suggestions or requests? I’m trying to read the book suggestions ahead of the new year so that the list will include books that are cozies that are diverse in cultures, and/or classics, and/or newer publications. I’m sending for Guilt and Ginataan by Mia Manansala, her latest book. We enjoyed one of her earlier books and I thought it would be fun to read one of the author’s later books. I’m also about to read Close to Death by Anthony Horowitz. I understand that this novel is a superior example of elegant writing. I want to see if any of these books should be on our list. At any rate, if you do have some suggestions let us know.
