February Monthly Blog

It’s February which is a bit unbelievable to me. First it was about to be 2025 which I thought at that time was unbelievable. Now, January has slipped by and it’s already February. I have to take a step back and say “What have I accomplished?”

I know that my book was published on Amazon and Kindle (Unprincipaled Death). If you read it, and I certainly hope that you do, please review it on Amazon. Then, I read, besides the usual daily newspapers,  Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Links, Heat Wave by Richard Castle, The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches by Alan Bradley, Murder before Evensong: A Canon Clement Mystery by Richard Coles, the short story by Arthur Conan Doyle The Dancing Men, and a wide variety of Instagram posts! I’ve started keeping a reading log so I can keep track of what a book is about and whether or not I liked it. Last year I found that I couldn’t remember the titles of all of the books that I read and most embarrassingly of all, couldn’t always remember what a book was about. I blame this on being “oversubscribed” and not the fault of age!

I wrote a couple of chapters of the sequel to Unprincipaled Death. I’m having a bit of trouble working through the plot. Should I kill someone else or simply threaten the person? Right now, it’s a muddle. I write something down on my outline and then erase, then put it back again. This is not helping chapter 3 which I thought that I had worked out in preparation for the activity in chapter 4. Ugh.

Do any of you keep a journal? I talked this over with a friend who received a beautiful journal book from her daughter for the December holidays. She hadn’t started using it at the time we had this discussion. I mentioned that I wanted to start keeping one with the idea that it would show that I try to be purposeful each day. Most days I simply write a couple of sentences. It’s rather satisfying. How about you?

Verge has an interesting article about Bookshop.org trying to launch an ebook store similar to Amazon’s. The company is negotiating with Amazon to allow ebooks to appear on more than one platform and to benefit both Amazon and independent bookstores. It’s an interesting concept. We’ll see how it plays out.

Please RSVP for our meeting on the 23rd. We’re discussing The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches by Alan Bradley and then playing an Icon Sentence game. It’s a game that ends up being very, very funny. You’ll enjoy the meeting. And remember that in March we have the very prolific author Heather Weidner speak to our group. You can read any of her books from any of her series; however, she recently published her newest book and newest series: Murder Strikes a Chord (A Pearly Girls Mystery, 1). Briefly, the novel is about: Veronica Mars meets The Golden Girls as event planner Cassidy Jamison and her four sixty-year-old employees race to solve a rocker's murder.

It sounds fun. Get your comments and questions ready for Heather!

I look forward to seeing you at our Zoom meeting on the 23rd and again in March on the 23rd.

With Cozy Mystery thoughts,

Karin Diskin
